About ebooks
Welcome to ProtoBooks, where you can access content both electronically and in print. Our ebooks are sold directly through the ProtoBooks shopping cart, while our print books are sold either through the individual publishers' websites or through the Harvard Book Store.
Our electronic options include:
- Download-only to a single computer via Adobe Digital Editions;
- Download for offline reading in the iOffline Reader;
- Cloud-based access (your entire bookshelf accessible anytime, anywhere);
- Institutional subscriptions (based on number of concurrent users and/or time period).
All of our ebooks can be annotated and bookmarked. We welcome your input as we grow to better serve your needs. If you are interested in purchasing institutional access, please email us and we'll work with you.

About print books
Many of the publishers at ProtoBooks sell their books both in print and ebook format. To buy a print version of a book, simply click the "Buy Print Book" button on that title's product page. This will take you away from ProtoBooks and to the print product listing for that title, which could be on the publisher's own website, at an e-tailer like Amazon, or at the Harvard Book Store's website. Your purchase of the print book will be conducted through a separate shopping cart at one of these sites; ProtoBooks does not process or fulfill print book orders.
Print books that are fulfilled through the Harvard Book Store are done either on consignment or through the Espresso Book Machine (EBM). Within four minutes of your clicking "Buy Print Book," the EBM can have your book printed, bound, and ready to ship anywhere in the world. This is a major asset for publishers looking to reduce prohibitive warehousing and shipping costs, and is a great way to expand into new markets worldwide.
